“Using” a Webkinz Gecko really means interacting with its virtual version in the Webkinz game (Webkinz Classic or Webkinz Next, depending on the version). Here are the steps and tips:
-
Adopt / Register the Gecko
- The physical plush Gecko comes with a secret code on its tag. When you sign into Webkinz (or Webkinz Next), you enter this code to adopt the virtual version of the Gecko.
- Once registered, the Gecko becomes one of your pets in your account.
-
Name and Personalize
- After adopting, you can give your Gecko a name of your choice.
- You can also decorate rooms or the Gecko’s space with items (furniture, decor) and let the Gecko live in homes you design.
-
Feed and Care
- Just like other pets, your Gecko needs food, rest, play, and attention.
- You can buy food from the W-Shop. Its pet-specific food is Sticky Spider Cider (though it can eat other foods too).
- Using its specific item (Leafy Lounger) makes it happier or gives special effects.
-
Play Games & Earn KinzCash
- You can play mini-games, do daily activities, tasks, etc., to earn “KinzCash” (the in-game currency).
- With the Gecko, you can also use it in challenges or games like other pets.
-
Pet Mood, Health, Happiness
- Keep an eye on its mood bars (hunger, energy, happiness, etc.). If the Gecko is hungry or unhappy, you need to feed it, let it rest, play with it, or use items to cheer it up.
-
Use Pet-Specific Items for Bonuses
- Giving the Gecko its pet-specific item (Leafy Lounger) or its pet food gives special bonuses (e.g. better happiness gain).
- Also, buying and using those items helps the Gecko feel more at home / unique compared to using generic items.
-
Switch Between Webkinz Classic & Webkinz Next (if applicable)
- Depending on whether the Gecko code supports both, you may be able to use it in both versions of Webkinz (the original “Classic” and the newer “Next” world).
- Some newer plushes come with two codes, one for Classic, one for Next.
